JUST FIX IT
With resurfacing, no more bumps in the road at Brown Field

UNION-TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER

September 8, 2008

IT'S FIXED: Motorists no longer have to drive on the wrong side of Heritage Road in Otay Mesa to avoid an extremely worn section of the asphalt roadway.

THE SITE: Heritage Road at Brown Field in Otay Mesa
The bumpy ride that we wrote about last month is at Brown Field, one of San Diego's municipal airports. It's just north of Pogo Road, in front of Ecology Auto Parts. The roadway was resurfaced late last month.

WHO'S RESPONSIBLE: Hasan Yousef, the city Street Division's deputy director, who can be reached at (619) 527-7504 or hyousef@sandiego.gov.

Requests for road repairs in the city of San Diego should go to (619) 527-7500. A request for service also can be filed online at apps.sandiego.gov/streetdiv.

IT'S FIXED: Tall weeds have been trimmed near the transition ramp from La Jolla Scenic Drive South onto eastbound La Jolla Parkway. As we wrote late last month, the weeds had obstructed the view of merging traffic, and the fire marshal's office had said they needed to be trimmed.

WHO'S RESPONSIBLE: Hasan Yousef.

To report potential vegetation hazards on public or private property, call the Fire-Rescue Department's brush and weed abatement section at (619) 533-4444.

STILL WAITING: Weeds along a section of San Pasqual Road are growing taller.

As we wrote late last month, the weeds that grow next to the roadway between the Orfila Winery and the San Diego Ostrich Farm are on property owned by the city of San Diego's Water Department. The fire marshal's office has said they need to be cut back.

Jim Fisher, deputy director of water operations, said the city's Real Estate Assets Department is looking at the lease agreements to determine whether the city or the leaseholder is responsible.

NEED A PROBLEM SOLVED: Is there a problem government hasn't fixed despite your complaints? Whether it's a missing bus bench or an unkempt park anywhere in San Diego County, Just Fix It might be able to help.

Complaint forms are at justfixit.uniontrib.com, or call (800) 820-8714.
